Prof. Dr. med. Christian J. Thaler

Prof. Dr. C. J. Thaler was appointed University Professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University Hospital of Munich/Grosshadern in 1998, where he now directs the special departments of gynaecological endocrinology, family planning and reproductive medicine. Before taking up this post he worked and studied in renowned hospitals and institutes at home and abroad, including the Center for Reproduction and Transplantation Immunology, Indianapolis, USA, the Center for Assisted Reproduction, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, the Medical School of Aberdeen, UK and the Department of Gynaecological Endocrinology of the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main.

Professor Thaler is Chairman of the Association of University Reproductive Medicine Centres (URZ – www.unirepromed.de) and for some years was Vice-President of the American Society of Reproductive Immunology. Since 2007 he is Vice President of the German Society of Reproductive Medicine (DGRM). He is authorised to provide advanced training in the specialities of gynaecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine, and is an examiner in these fields for the Bavarian State Chamber of Medicine.

His main clinical and scientific interests lie in the areas of

• Ovarian function and the effects of trace elements and vitamins on this function;
• Mechanisms of embryonal nidation in the womb (implantation), and
• Hormonal and immunlogical processes during early pregnancy.

He is the author and co-author of numerous books and book contributions, and of a large number of scientific publications.
